Use email; I'm seldom home.
Retired in 2001 as a librarian, business teacher and finally a computer weeny at a community college in Lake County, Illinois, north of Chicago. Presently I live in downtown Chicago for six months of the year, Buenos Aires, Argentina for four to five months and the rest of the time in Florida or traveling.
I enjoy reading, the gym, movies, rotisserie baseball; playing cards with other old men takes up most of the other time. Also, of course, staying in touch with friends and my country via the internet.
Over the past 50 years, some of my most important highlights include: My wife Margie, of Toronto, Canada, and I were married for 35 years and she passed away in March of 2003. She was Chief Financial Officer for one of the main units of Sungard Investment Systems and taught me most everything I know about travel and living well. I also had the privilege of serving in the U. S. Navy for four years, although under extreme hardship in San Francisco, where I met my wife. We traveled endlessly, whenever there was free time, all over the world.
My top most favorite thing to do is travel; highlights include photo safaris in Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa, dozens of day hiking expeditions, particularly in Tuscany and France. The more rigorous hiking as in Patagonia or Costa Rica is now behind me, but walking in the Italian countryside with an escorted group is still viable and one of the loveliest things a person can do.
I have lived in more than a dozen places since graduating from Central. I lived the longest in Libertyville, Illinois, 1972-2001. I got tired of cutting the grass and shoveling the snow, so we moved to downtown, Chicago, but I get out of town as soon as cold weather threatens. Hence, I live in Buenos Aires for part of the year because the weather is the direct opposite of Chicago.
I attended Central for 6 years, from grade 7 to 12. That was before the Junior High on the north side was built. There were 18 year olds in some of the gym classes in the 8th grade. One worked hard to stay out of their way. One day two policemen arrested and dragged one of the older boys out of the class, certainly a highlight of show and tell.
