I have been married to Richard Schwartz for 43 years. We have 2 children, Michael, age 40 and Kristen, age 37. We have 3 grandchildren ages 4, 2, and 1. I taught English and Social Studies for five years in the Chicago North Shore area after graduation from Northwestern University, B.A. and M.A. Spent next 15 years raising children and doing volunteer work for the Children's Home and Aid Society of Illinois and as a docent for the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago.
When the children left for college I opened a book store with two friends in Glencoe, IL, a suburb of Chicago. Our store sponsored the founding of Writers' Theatre Chicago-it performed in the back of our store - and still does. We sold the store 5 years ago. Dick and I built a home in Whitefish, MT. We live here year round and travel as much as possible. Our daughter and family also live in Whitefish. Our son and family live in Chicago.
My husband, children and grandchildren are probably the three highlights of our life in the last 50 years. But, we enjoy good health, were able to build to the home of our dreams in an area we love, and have travelled extensively. Our favorite things to do include travel, cooking, golf for Dick, being with our children and grandchildren frequently and spoiling our two dogs. I read a great deal and enjoy discovering new authors.
I lived in the Chicago area since attending college there. We stayed in the area until 5 years ago when we moved to Montana. I was born in Montana so I did have some connections to the area. Dick grew up in Indiana, was in the service after college for two years and ended up in Chicago which is where I met him.
I lived in the Chicago area for 45 years; basically lived in Glencoe, a suburb of Chicago. We built a second home here in Whitefish about 10 years ago - liked it and built a full time residence.
Central High was a fine place to be in the 50's. My friends were really good friends. Many of the teachers were exceptional like Doc Winters and Mr. Sherwood. There were probably many embarrassing moments but none of them did permanent damage.
